Yo,this is not going to put me in a very good light,but what the heck...helping is my business,not looking good.
When I rendered this model.I had no idea on how to make a lights setup.
So,the lights setup in mental ray,I only used a standard one,provided with 3dsmax...its the Studio lightning scene...from the scenes available in 3dsmax.
I only deleted the geometry in the scene,and placed my model,then worked the lights a bit..and thats it.
hope this helps you guys to get good renders.:)

Sorry pal,just got back to deviantart since a looong time.at least at replying.
Well,yes,area lights,dont remember now the right setup :)
As for the shader,just plain mental ray material,but off course combined with other renders ,ao,sss..its not a simple render wam bam...its composed in PS

hmm..patience I guess :))..and a few alphas.I find it very simple now...I would do it differently probably...but that requires time,which I don't have :)

so you made an alpha for all the seams and just painted it on? seems like it would be a pain in the ass to do by hand.
